June 12th - Day Ten

Today we visited Universidade de Fortaleza (Unifor) and had an extensive tour of their campus. We first went to their medical school where we had a first hand look at how the medical students train to be doctors. Apparently you can be a certified doctor after only four years of medical school as opposed to our eight. After the medical school we went to their soccer stadium as well as their indoor gym.

One of my favorite aspects of the school was the wall-less rooms. Where the outward facing walls are basically giant blinders. These blinders open and close and allow fresh air to "cool" the rooms. I was also a huge fan of the animals that were loose on the campus. We managed to run into one of these animals as we first walked onto Unifor's campus.

We had lunch on campus and then listened to a lecture about waste management. This was a very interesting presentation because it touched on a lot of the problems that we had been seeing in a lot of the Amazonian villages. We learned a little bit about problem solving and the different types of waste that is produced. After the lecture we met a few of the students from Unifor and made plans to meet up with them later.
